Violent Tourism
Statement Begins
[[Anthony Bourdain]] wrote as a witness to his own crime. Every travel narrative is an act of extraction. You arrive with your moisture-wicking lies, your camera, your hunger for “[[authenticity]],” and you [[consume]] a place that was never asking to be consumed. The standard travel writer solves this by pretending they’re different—enlightened, respectful, “traveling not touring.”
Bourdain solves it by pleading guilty in the first paragraph.
